Trip Report
A few months back Fred decided that he wanted to have another TechSTOC, so he talked to Turbo Tom and they set the date for June 30th. So Fred got the ball rolling on getting everyone excited about it.
I was planning on just going over Ortega Hwy, but decided to meet up with Dana and Fred at the rest stop on I5, just north of Oceanside. I arrived right at 9am and found Dana and Fred waiting for me. We were just about to gear up and take off when another bike showed up. We did our intros, geared up again when a fifth bike showed up. (Sorry, can't remember names). Then some tourist from India started talking to us about the bikes and by the time we got out of there, we were running way behind.
Fred took point since he knew where a McDs was off Alicia Parkway, and off we went. As we approached the off ramp for McDs, Fred was out a couple of lanes and missed the off ramp...or maybe it wasn't at that off ramp since Dana and I were the only two out of the group to make the off ramp. And no McDs, but we found a Carls Jr, which did the trick for me, since I can't do donuts. Fred and the others continued on to TechSTOC. With a happy stomach, I was ready to continue, so Dana and I jumped back on the 5 and I followed him since he had been there before.
I had a number of things I wanted to do to the bike (header wrap, throttle body sync, balancing shaft adjustment), but because of the late arrival, the shop was pretty busy so I decided to just watch and learn. Which was great. There were a lot of bikes and a lot of work going on. Byron even brought his tire changer and demonstrated it for everyone.
At one point I decided I needed to make a couple of purchases, so I went in the store and bought a rack for the top case, a dash left mount (I would like to set up my camera on it for taking pictures while riding.) and the header wrap. Since I will have the Fourth of July all to myself, I figured I could get everything done then, in my own shop! (-:
So the pizza came and the cold drinks were plentifull, and company was great, what more could you ask for?
When it was time to leave, I took Ortega Hwy home and it was its usual mess with all the construction and that. I made it home sometime around 5pm.
Thanks Tom for host such a fun day! I'm looking forward to the next one.
