1978 Yamaha XS400

After my short stunt in Louisiana, we came back to Southern California (July 80).  I had sold the CB550F only a few months after we had settled in Louisiana, so it had been over a year since I sold it. So my dear wife decided that if I had a nice Mustang to work on, that I would forget about buying an other motorcycle.  Chris's  brother had a friend that had such a Mustang, a 68, 6 cylinder. Can you say conspiracy?

So I bought the Mustang, spent a few bucks and sweat on getting it fixed up and about a year after starting on the Mustang and almost getting it to a point that it was nice, (it needed paint and a headliner was all), one of the guys that I was working with, told me he was looking for a Mustang. When I told him I'd sell mine, he jumped on it and it was gone! I got $1,000 for it, which was just enough to purchase this '78 Yamaha XS400, with only 900 miles on it. You guessed it, I still hadn't gotten motorcycles out of my system.  My poor wife just didn't understand me...;-)

I rode the heck out of this poor bike for two years. Mostly to work and school (I started on my BSCS in August of '82)  I put a Yamaha 550 Seca fairing on it, not much protection, but it looked cool! It ran great for those two years, until I decided I need something a little bigger.

My son Justin, he was that liitle at one time...
