1983 Honda VF750S V45 Sabre
In March of '93, the Galilleo spacecraft antenna wasn't able to open up all the way, so JPL took $30 Million from the DSN group that I worked for, and since my project had ended December '92 and I was on a little in-house project, I was laid off. It made me proud though, to think that my salary made a big dent in the $30 Million!
Due to the job situation, by August we moved to San Diego. A couple of years later, I got a job downtown San Diego, near the airport. It just so happened that we lived in a little community of Rancho Penasquitos (go ahead, just try to pronounce it!...;-) and Penasquitos sits where the eight mile car pool lanes started. And if I had a motorcycle, I could by-pass eight miles of stop and go traffic. Now, how could Chris argue with that logic?
Well, she couldn't! Since I liked the Sabre I had before, I decided to look for another one. I found this one in the Cycle Trader for $1,500 with only 3,400 miles on it. The biggest draw back was that it had been sitting. After cleaning the carbs, it ran pretty good. I rode it for two years, but hated every time I had to ride it in the rain. I was tired of getting wet. By June of '98, I had gotten a job closer and since the bike just wasn't in the pristine shape I wanted my bike to be in and since this was before I discovered ebay, meaning trying to find a fairing and saddle bags were hard at best, I decided to sell the bike to my brother in Sacramento. He had already worn out three '82 V45 Sabres and was ready to start wearing out another. I put it in the back of my truck and took it up to him.
